Type Locality and Naming

The type section is lies on the north bank of the middle Guanniao River, Nenjiang County, Heilongjiang. It was named by Zhang Hairi et al. in 1976, and formally cited in Regional Geology of Heilongjiang Province in 1989.


Lithology and Thickness

Volcaniclastics and Volcanics. Lower part is dominated by tuffaceous sandstone, siltstone and slate, intercalated with volcanic breccia and tuffaceous lava. Upper part consists of lava, rhyolite, dacite and dacitic lava. Thickness >772 m.

Regional extent

The siltstone in the Lower part yields Plant Noegerathiopsis sp.


Age 

A K-Ar isotope date on granodiorite in the formation was 292 Ma. Formation is inferred to be Late Carboniferous in age
